I read Evernight when the story first came out and stayed with it, but the story just kind of dwindled for me. However, one thing that stayed consistent for me throughout the series was my extreme like for Balthazar. Actually, I can say the same thing about our leading lady, Skye, too.

This may sound a little strange, but both characters surprised me with their common sense and rational thinking. Obviously, there are several characters from the Evernight series brought over to this story. I think the only evenright that confused me was evernigyt I thought this was supposed to be just a stand-alone book but the ending sort of sets it up to where it could be more.

Definitely not complaining if it is, though! Oh Balthazar, you make me sigh, For you, all guys, I will deny, Your chiseled abs and brooding smirk, Make daydreaming a lifelong perk. Forget that Skye and come to me! Evednight my neck and set me free! The thought of you, I am in awe, I close my eyes, and oh la la!

So I was never one of those people that read and re-read Twilight over and over again, so I am not even close to bored of vampires yet…which is great, because otherwise I might not have read Balthazar right away; and I would have completely been missing out!

It was such a quick evrrnight which I love…. Because, with me, I like to get to the steamy part right away!!! Balthazar is a stand-alone novel with characters from the Evrrnight series. The only one that confused me at times where I had to look up a character analysis just to be clear about what everniggt was was Lucas, and he only has a few cameos we never see him in person…only a mention of a phone call or text.

So that was great that I could read a book without having to go purchase and read all the ones that came before it. Now, any time she is in the place where someone died a violent death, she goes into a trance and relives the death—the fear, the pain, all of it. Skye, unaware of the power her blood has over vampires, finds herself in the middle of a cat eevrnight mouse game with Redgrave and his minions.

Dreamsicle…my mouth is starting to water! But for some reason, Evsrnight opens his eyes and his heart all at once now…. He pledges to protect her from Redgrave, which evernigjt him to be at her side constantly—even throughout the night. We see Skye constantly fret over whether or not Balthazar looked at her or thought about her. I do wish the novel would have delved deeper into her psychic powers because that it was causes the problems to begin with; however, her abilities are put on the back burner while its effects on vampires is thrust in the forefront.

I would have liked to see Skye eevernight push her limits to discover what true power she holds.

Evernight Series

He made one rule many centuries ago: Anyways…after that, Balthazar has to recite his rule over and over again. Finally, when he gives in to his desire for Skye, they end up in heart-thumping, chills down your back, embrace that, yes, I read multiple times.

So, Survey Says… I am oh so glad I read this book. While, in my opinion, Balthazar is not Jace or Four, I still found him to be oh so hot, so if you enjoy paranormal romance, this book is for you.

I mean, Skye is just now starting to understand her psychic powers in the last chapters of the book and the power they hold. For parents, there are a few curse words here and there, but most importantly, there is sexual content. I have read the whole Evernight series and my favorite character in all of them was Balthazar.

So I was very happy when Ms. Gray wrote a novel just about him! What I really liked about this book was that even though there were references to characters and events from Evernight you didn’t have to read the series for this one to make sense. It easily stood alone. Skye Tierney has returned from Evernight Academy after it has burned down.

She is trying to get back into the routine of her old life before her brother died, her parents buried themselves in their work and she was sent to boarding school. She is also trying to deal with the new “gift” she has discovered.

She can see the events of a violent death, years after it has happened. Skye is riding her horse in the woods when she is confronted with a vampire. He chases after her and almost catches her when Balthazar enters the story and saves Skye. Balthazar knows the rogue vampire from his past and now must get ready to confront his own sire, Redgrave. After the rogue vampire tastes Skye’s blood, and in turn, let’s Redgrave taste Skye’s blood, they know she is someone special and they are hunting her.

Balthazar must protect her. I loved the relationship between Balthazar and Skye. It is heated and filled with passion but Balthazar keeps pushing Skye away because he has a “no humans” relationship rule.

Skye intentionally does not make it easy for Balthazar to push her away though. There are some appearances from characters of Evernight, including Clementine, Bianca and Lucas. I enjoyed their brief interactions with Balthazar and Skye as it’s always fun to see what old characters are up too. Skye was a great character. She was strong and even though she was hurting from the death of her brother, she was moving on, unlike her parents. The only thing I found annoying was her constant demand that her parents needed her to stay at the house and to be strong for them even though they were never there.

Skye suffered from the “absent parent syndrome” that so many characters in YA novels suffer from but she constantly demanded that she couldn’t leave because her parents would be lost without her. I honestly don’t even think her parents would have noticed if she had left. I loved how the book went back into the past and showed Balthazar’s life throughout the centuries.

There were “interlude” chapters that showed his life that were very entertaining and gave you more insight into Balthazar. The ending left with a great cliffhanger so I am guessing this is going to be a new series. I can’t wait to read more about Skye and Balthazar! Star ratings in yellow are from our Staff Reviewers.
